Ever wonder about the evolution of the podcast? While podcasting is a comparatively young technology it still has a rather fascinating albeit brief history.
The background of the word, "podcast" is quite fascinating and is reflective of the dynamic nature of the Internet community. Podcasting is a term that was only coined in 2004, combining two words: iPod and broadcasting. Ironically, this definition is somewhat of a misnomer since neither component is completely accurate. Neither podcasting nor listening to podcasts requires an iPod or other portable player. In fact, podcasts can be listened to on any mp3 enabled device including a desktop computer. The name association came about simply because Apple Computer's iPod was the best-selling portable digital audio player when podcasting began. What's more, no over-the-air broadcasting is required either. Even the editors of the New Oxford American Dictionary jumped on the podcasting bandwagon by declaring "podcasting" word of the year for 2005. The term was defined as "a digital recording of a radio broadcast or similar program, made available on the Internet for downloading to a personal audio player." The word will be added to the online version of the dictionary during their next update.
Members of Philips Design, in September 2005, chose for the first time the designs they considered best in class in five categories, with the Philips GoGear Jukebox user interface receiving the award for Interaction Design. In the new range of GoGear Jukeboxes, at the IFA 2005 in Berlin, demonstrated that the MP3 hard disk driver players reflected Philips' sense and simplicity theme. But that shouldn't come to any surprise to those who have kept up with Philips. In 2005, Royal Philips Electronics was Europe's largest with sales at 30.4 billion, and one of the world's top three consumer electronic companies.
In spite of other known methods of delivering content which are mostly based on Push technology, the podcasting is based on pull technology. In push technology, the content is delivered, directed from the source to the consumer. The consumer has no control over it. For example, when a radio channel starts at a specific time, follows based on a predefined and fixed program and ends at a specific time, the consumer has no chance or permission to alter any part of it. If you lose a part of the program, you won?t be able to re-listen to it. You can not rewind it, stop it and think a while about the subject then re-play it. This is push technology. But, if you could have control of the flow of the content, it would be pull. The consumer selects the content and controls it. Podcasting is a kind of pull technology. You download selected content and use it based on your own desire and full control over the flow of content.

According to the latest market studies, the iPod has sold over 1.5 million units as compared to the other MP3 players. The iPod video 30gb holds over 15,000 songs, 25,000 photos, or 150 hours of video with a battery life of 14 hours for music, and two hours for videos. This is exciting when we think about having no choices a few years ago, or carrying around a lot of CDs. Of course, we could always listen to the car stereo! But when a person is out shopping for a MP3 player, is the iPod really any better?

First I'll start with the Nintendo DS, it's got a cool-techno-slim design and stores it's games on cards which look similar to SD's. It has two screens (one being a touchscreen) and comes with a stylus to use. It also has built in Infa-Red and a slot to insert your Game Boy Advance games.

The hard drive of a computer refers to the fact that the computer memory can retain any and all stored information that was put in - even if it is not powered. The non-volatile examples would be hard disks, floppy disks, read-only memory, etc. This would be opposite than RAM, as it loses everything when shut down.
In regard to the MP3 players, or the digital audio players, there are three main drive types a person should know about: the MP3 CD players; the flash-based player that are low-storage devices; and the hard drive-based players or digital jukeboxes. The last one refers to a device that reads any digital audio files from a hard drive. They are considered better as they have higher capacities, ranging from 128M to 8GB. Solid state with no moving parts, they are considered very resilient. It is projected that flash-based media will surpass the hard drive based players, making them obsolete. Images and video media support is becoming quite accepted among hard drives, due to their capacity and physical size. So with all this in mind, it is time to look at how it relates to the MP3 devices and what you want to buy.

"I've been getting those very annoying Winfixer popups. My popup blocker is set to High. I have Ad-Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy and even Microsoft AntiSpyware. But no matter what I try they keep coming back. I?ve searched for help on removing Winfixer, but all the info I found is too technical for me. Can you help?"
Based on several emails I've seen from readers, Winfixer (also known s WinFixer 2005) is a nasty bit of adware. It tries to install itself through confusing and alarming popups, and is resistant to many removal tools. Here's what I recommend to remove Winfixer.

Do you have relatives who lived through the 1930s? Those were tough times because of the Great Depression. What kept this ?greatest generation? going (and laughing) is now called old time radio. There are a number of Web sites devoted to it. Several of these even offer free listening.
One of my favorites is Old Time Radio Fan (www.otrfan.com). This site lets you listen to or download old-time detective stories, mystery shows and more. This includes classics like Sherlock Holmes, Nero Wolfe, Philip Marlowe, Sam Spade and many others.

Listening to podcasts isn't something I enjoy or take time for, quite frankly. I'm a visual learner and prefer to read something rather than listen to it, as I find reading a much quicker way to gather the info that I need. However, with the proliferation of audio listening devices, like the whole iPod family and other mp3 players, I have to acknowledge that I'm in the minority, I believe. Upload the drive with your filled-in Outlook/Plaxo contact or virtual business card and add a few free offerings such as an short MP3 demo of a class or training, a white paper, workbook, ebook ? whatever is pertinent to your business. Keep the drive with you and whenever someone is talking to you about your work and has access to gear that will accept your drive (PDA, laptop, pocket PC, USB-capable smart-phone, etc), you can just offer to download your inclusive package into their device.

Ubuntu, a user-friendly version of Linux, has been running so nicely on my home PC that I decided to do an experiment. I wrote down a list of tasks I normally do with Windows XP and decided to see how many of them I could do on Linux.
Here?s what my list looked like: 1) Write this column; 2) Browse the Web; 3) Get new software and install it; 4) Download files; 5) Play music and video files; 6) Burn CDs; and 7) Print my documents.

My interest in guitar quickly became a passion, even verging on obsession, and the guys in the band became like a family. On Saturdays, when I had the chance, I would descend upon our local guitar shop and spend literally the entire day playing first one instrument, then the next. What an opportunity to learn. My husband used to be in a band when I was in college. A group of people approached him one day, and told him that they wanted to help him and his band. It was a harmless offer but, something told me that they will create a load of problems. I started feeling this way when I observed that they had cut all of the bass players out of the pictures of bands they had hanging on their wall.

The has been a lot of legal drama about this because after all, music is still a business. I'm sure we can relate to working hard for something and then expecting a profit from it. However, I think there can be some benefits to someone downloading your mp3 for free.
First of all, there can be a scenario where someone, who wasn't going to buy the artist's record, downloads an mp3 for free, he then really starts to like the song from the artist. He goes ahead and buys the album, he loves it. The next thing you know he is buying every album that this artist releases.

People in the United States, and those in other modern countries, are eating more (and more of the wrong stuff) and exercising less or getting no exercise at all. So many of us think we are too busy to spend 30 minutes each day exercising.
Sadly, this is resulting in a society where more and more people are overweight. This problem is resulting in a strain on the health care industry since being overweight can cause a myriad of health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease, to name a few. It also results in more sick days from work.

I don't know about you, but I secretly love watching infomercials. I enjoy dissecting how they sell, how they get people excited, how they entice people to take action now and pick up the phone and order something they completely don't need!
As you know, these programs always offer a huge bonus or multiple bonuses for people who buy. Often the bonus is worth even more than the featured product itself. You know what I mean... they're selling you a little vegetable chopper, but they also throw in a blender, toaster, and coffeemaker!

I?m sure that it?s not news to you that MP3 players can be used to play many different forms of music. Your MP3 players can be used as an educational tool as well, a virtual mobile university if you will.
When I bought my first MP3 player I did what people typically do with MP3 players. You take music from your computer and you load it into your MP3 player. Today?s society is more productive than ever. All of that increased productivity leaves little time for leisure activities. More and more activities are being done passively, and taking in a good book or magazine is no exception. Audio books are about to explode in the next few years as more and more people become aware of their mainstream popularity.
If you haven?t been living under a rock for the last year or so, you know that the Apple iPod has far exceeded even Steve Jobs? expectations. People like to listen and listening is a passive activity. In other words, you can listen to music or speech while doing other things such as writing a paper, working out, or resting on the sofa with your eyes closed. Quite frequently, people will learn new material such as a foreign language on the commute back and forth to work. While in medical school, I would listen to recordings of my lectures through the car stereo each day on my commute. This saved tons of valuable time, and I feel that my grades improved over simply reading the material. In fact, I am more of an audible learner.

Consider me a reverse snob: I love CDs. My music collection contains hundreds of them.
I still have four or five vinyl LPs and a couple dozen 45-rpm singles packed away somewhere, but I no longer have a turntable to play those relics on.
